If Your Child Has Asthma, Make Sure The School Knows About It - Tips

The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology recommends talking to school teachers, nurses and coaches about your child's specific asthma triggers and treatments, your child's asthma-management program and your child's asthma medications and the school's policy on administering them.

Each season brings its own asthma triggers. Summer outside activities cause some to suffer on high-ozone days. Autumn is ragweed and mold season, with local ragweed counts starting to grow the second half of August. If fall has been a troublesome allergy and asthma season for you in the past, talk to your doctor about starting medication such as an antihistamine or asthma `controller' before ragweed pollen counts soar. When ragweed pollen is high, stay indoors or put off outdoor activities until late in the day when pollen is lower.
