Systems or Symptoms?
The words systems and symptoms run concurrently whenever reference is being made to the human body. Systems are mechanisms, which facilitate performance of various processes. Symptoms on the other hand indicate what is happening within these systems. Symptoms are dependent on systems.
The human body consists of 22 vital internal organs, thus, it is important for systems to be efficient for each organ to undertake its duties effectively. There are symptoms that are easily interpretable whereas others are not thus necessitating professional judgment.
The increasing complicated nature of systems emphasizes the need for careful observation of symptoms. It is in this force of conviction that we are going to focus on systems while also highlighting some symptoms that may exemplify the relationship between these two facets.
Circulatory System
This mainly comprises of the heart and blood vessels (arteries and veins and capillaries). The key function of the circulatory system is to supply blood and oxygen to different parts of the body.
Abnormal heartbeat, hemorrhage or abnormal breathing are examples of problems within this system. Identifying internal symptoms like hemorrhage may be difficult so in case of accidents or irregular sensation in the circulatory areas, medical check-ups are recommended.
Respiratory System
This chiefly comprises of the nose, trachea and lungs. It is responsible for the inhalation of oxygen and exhalation of carbon-dioxide which happen simultaneously. Any slight shift is fatal and may lead to death.
Blockage of the nose or heavy and inconsistent breathing are symptoms that may signify a problem and should be addressed as soon as possible.
Immune System
Comprises mainly of protein cells, organs and tissues. An example is enzymes which are catalysts as well as defense systems in the human body.
When one is easily vulnerable to diseases, it means that the immune system is compromised and treatment should be sought quickly.
Skeletal Systems
This mostly consists of bones which provide the body with necessary support as well as being manufacturers of blood (bone marrow).
Lack of sufficient blood and weak bones are symptoms of problems in the skeletal system. Necessary steps should be taken in accordance with professional medical assessment.
Excretory and Urinary System (S)
This category principally comprises of the skin, large intestines, bladder and kidney. It helps in removal of waste substances and toxins from the body. This may occur through sweating, excretion or urination. A problem with the bladder, kidneys may be a symptom of internal damage of the excretory system.
Muscular System
From its name, it consists essentially of muscles. These muscles are mainly for storing energy, fundamental for the body’s processes.
It is difficult to diagnose symptoms associated with muscles. However, the presence of pain in the muscles may be symptoms signifying an injury requiring.
Digestive System
This is a vast system comprising of the mouth, esophagus, stomach and intestines. It is the chief processor of the food we eat.
Its symptoms are easily recognized for example; swelling of the mouth or even flatulence.
Nervous System
This is another key system that comprises of the spine, brain and nerves. Its function is to transmit neural impulses within the body, conveying brain messages to the rest of the body amongst others.
Symptoms of problems in this system include profuse shaking of the body signifying nervous breakdown or inability to bend the back due to an injury in the spinal cord.
Reproductive System
This includes the male and female reproductive organs. These organs are responsible for reproduction.
Inflammations in testicles (men) or breasts (women) exemplify symptoms that require check-up.
The relationship between systems and symptoms is vital and thus no symptom should be regarded lightly. There are symptoms like pain or mild headaches, which are universal but may signify something minor or severe.
